Chef Michael Brandon, opened the newest Saw’s BBQ location at the former home of Fat Sam’s Sub Station in Southside. He is also the owner of SAW’s Street Kitchen.

Since 2014, Saw’s Street Kitchen — the food truck of Saw’s BBQ — has been traversing the Birmingham metro area, serving as an ambassador for the group of restaurants.

The SAW’s barbecue that customers know and love sets the foundation for food in this 1,500-square-foot space where Brandon pays homage to his Pensacola culinary roots by incorporating some Gulf seafood that fits tastily into the realm of Southern barbecue.

Saw's Southside is serving traditional eastern Carolina BBQ along with its "Southside Interjection," Gulf Seafood.

Always love me some Saw’s no matter which location. It is dangerous this location opened a couple of blocks from the house though. Sweet tea fried chicken, pork and greens, and the smoked wings are a must for any first timer.

What a perfect addition to Southside and within walking distance of my house, to boot! On my first visit I opted for their special, the hot chicken sandwich with special sauce and house-made pickles. I also had a side of pimento cheese and saltines. I've had good hot chicken but this was G-O-O-D. The chicken was super moist, the chicken was quite spicy but was crisp and had great flavor and the honey sauce was the perfect compliment. The house-made pickles added some welcome relief to the spice and the bun was soft and slightly sweet. The pimento cheese was an old-fashioned blend of pimento, cheese and pickle juice, and was perfect.

I've had the smoked chicken sandwich and bbq beans here several times. This location has the best white bbq sauce I've ever tasted. It's the perfect consistency and taste. The bbq beans are also my favorite because they put so much pork in it. You could almost make a separate sandwich out of the side of beans! Great!

For an old country boy from Missouri having enjoyed plenty of Kansas City and St Louis bbq, Saws Southside gave me an enjoyable and delicious change in bbq style and flavor. The choices and flavorful preparations rival any other bbq this old boy has sampled for many years. I highly recommend the tasting the menu items created by chef Michael Brandon any time you are traveling thru Birmingham. The southern hospitality of the staff is a welcome plus to the tasty food.
